PBA Pro Bono Coordinator since October 2001, David Trevaskis has logged more than one million miles by car (it has taken 3 cars) across the Commonwealth working to increase the number of lawyers working at no cost to the client to protect the livelihoods, health and homes of Pennsylvania’s poor and vulnerable and teaching Pennsylvania’s children and young adults how to be better citizens. The Pennsylvania Bar Foundation is marking this milestone with the Million Miles for Justice Car Raffle for the grand prize of a 2016 Honda Accord EX-L V-6 presented by Faulkner Honda Harrisburg or $25,000. The drawing will take place at the PBA Annual Dinner in Hershey on May 12, 2016.
Tickets are available for a donation of $100 for each ticket, and you need not be present to win. No more than 2000 tickets will be made available. In the event fewer than 350 donations of $100 per donation are received by 7:00 p.m. on May 12, 2016, the raffle will be held as scheduled, but the Grand Prize winner will not receive the Grand Prize, but will receive a sum equal to 50% of the donations actually received, less 10 % to be retained by the Foundation to cover expenses, but not to exceed $25,000. For example, in the event 300 donations of $100 per donation are received, the Grand Prize winner would receive $13,500 calculated as follows $30,000 x .5 x .9 = $13,500. The calculation of the donations actually received and the amount to be awarded shall be based solely on the Foundation’s accounting, which shall be final and conclusive with respect to the Grand Prize winner. If the car is chosen, the Grand Prize winner assumes all fees, local, state and federal taxes (including but not limited to income taxes based on the value of the car) which must be paid when the car is transferred to the winner. Likewise, there are federal taxes and there may be state and/or local tax consequences if the winner selects or is awarded, due to fewer than 350 tickets being sold, an alternate cash prize. The Pennsylvania Bar Foundation takes no responsibility for any tax liabilities. Please consult your tax advisor concerning your specific situation. This offer is void where prohibited by law, and all federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.
The contest rules are set forth below. By obtaining a ticket, you agree to be bound by these rules. The Pennsylvania Bar Foundation’s interpretation and application of the rules shall be final.
A new 2016 Honda Accord Sedan EX-L V-6, MSRP $31,480, presented by Faulkner Honda of Harrisburg, PA. Alternatively, the Grand Prize winner may elect to receive a cash prize of $25,000. See also the prize limitation under “Tickets.”
The Grand Prize Drawing will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Annual Dinner held at the Hershey Lodge Convention Center, 325 University Dr., Hershey, PA 17033. Tickets will not be available after 7:00 p.m. on May 12, 2016. Obtaining a contest ticket does not entitle the ticket holder entrance to the event.
The winner will be determined by a random drawing of contest tickets. The winner need not be present to win.
Tickets are available for a requested donation of $100 per ticket or without a donation as expressly described in these rules.
Ticket may be obtained from November 19, 2015 until 7:00 p.m. on May 12, 2016; however the maximum number of tickets may be distributed before that time. Division of the prize by a group shall be to the sole responsibility of the person named as the holder of record of that ticket, should that ticket be selected as a winner.
The Foundation reserves the right to reject any ticket order that is submitted with payment that does not constitute “good funds,” until valid, replacement payment is received. All check charges found declined after the drawing must be honored. A $30 charge will be assessed for insufficient funds or stop payment checks. Prior to the Grand Prize drawing, the Foundation will make a reasonable effort to notify the individual, whose payment has been rejected, by attempting to make contact through the information provided. The Foundation assumes no responsibility for lost, late, misdirected or non-delivered mail, email or fax messages, or any other failure to receive orders or deliver receipts prior to the drawing deadline.
A person may request a contest ticket without making a donation by mailing a hand-written request entitled “Million Miles for Justice Car Contest Ticket Request.” The request must include participant’s complete name, street address (no post office boxes), city, state, zip code, telephone number, and date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy), along with a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) and be mailed to: Pennsylvania Bar Foundation, Attn: Million Miles for Justice Car Contest, 100 South St., Harrisburg, PA 17101. Requests that are sent in business reply envelopes, that utilize address labels or stickers (for any address), that are photocopied, hand-stamped, computer-generated or otherwise mechanically or digitally produced or reproduced, or that otherwise fail to comply with these Official Rules will NOT be honored, acknowledged or returned, and the persons submitting such requests will forfeit any corresponding postage and envelopes. There is a limit of one ticket per listed street address. One contest ticket will be mailed in response to each mail-in request that complies with the requirements of these Official Rules.
The Pennsylvania Bar Foundation will process the ticket request in the same manner as a ticket obtained with a $100 donation. After the request is processed, the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation will mail the requestor a contest ticket using the self-addressed stamped envelope provided by the requestor. Contest tickets may take up to six weeks to be received by mail.
Requests for tickets and ticket donations received either (i) after all tickets are sold, or (ii) following the drawing, will be returned to the requester(s).
Only persons who are at least 18-years old and who possess a valid USA Driver’s license may obtain a contest ticket. Employees of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and their spouses and children living in the same household are excluded from participating and are not eligible to win a prize.
